Handfasting Emma and Marc

A handfasting ceremony is an alternative to a conventional wedding ceremony which has its roots in the old Celtic custom of getting married for a year and a day. A couple’s hands would be ceremonially bound together with a knotted cord or rope and the couple would jump over a broom together.

Many people choose to have a handfasting ceremony today even if they aren’t Pagans because they want to do something different and fun! Handfastings are not legally binding, so many choose to have a civic ceremony first followed by a bigger handfasting ceremony.

I believe that ceremonies and rites of passage should be tailor-made for the person or people they are for. For this reason I don’t carry fixed ideas about how a ceremony ‘should’ be. Each one that I write is original and bespoke. I am happy to work in a non-religious framework, with a deep respect for humanity and nature. However, as a Druid, I am equally confident at creating ceremonies in a Pagan or specifically Druid tradition, drawing upon my training with the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids.

I charge £250.00 for writing and conducting a handfasting/wedding plus my travel expenses. This includes a face-to-face meeting  plus the writing, preparation and delivery of a bespoke ceremony.

Please get in touch with me on 01600 750763 or on karin@redwsidom.co.uk for a free, no obligation, informal chat about what your thoughts are and to see whether I am the right celebrant for your hand fasting

Hello, we want to have a handfasting ceremony as a show of commitment to each other, neither of us want to go down the normal legal marriage route as we have both been down that path in the past and both are now divorced, we want a ceremony personal to us both and love the whole idea of the handfasting, could you please give me more details of what you provide.
    Many thanks.
